Electric signals picked up by metal wire vibrations in a magnet will never pickup any toan from wood. Let alone solid body wood. The important things on an electric guitar is the components that create and pickup the vibrations, Coils and strings. Thats it.

Good Evening Dylan, I am commenting this question on your most recent video. Could you please tell me if you have ever made a video about "steel plates" being added to the bottom of single coil pickups. If you haven't please consider addressing this topic in the future. Thank you very much.

We all have different tastes, and we all have different ideas about what a guitar needs, so please don't take this as a personal insult if you like Bigsby's, Floyd Roses, and other varieties of wiggle-sticks on guitars. Whatever you like is fine, and I wish you nothing but happiness in your guitar playing adventures--but I decided in the late 90's that whammy bars would have no part in my playing style, and I have happily never looked back. There are trade-offs that come with using a whammy bar, and they're not trade-offs I'm willing to make. I will go out of my way to find a hardtail version of a particular guitar before I will ever tighten another tremolo spring again, as long as I live.

Option paralysis for sure. I have a Mustang IV. Too many options. I start out using a Line 6 M13. Add, subtract and change effects to a song to where I like it. I will then switch to my pedalboard to tweak what I want.

This all happened in 2023. I received a brand new Gibson ES 345 in 60's Cherry from Sweetwater. When I opened the case I saw a chunk of wood with one side painted red, and some additional shavings of wood in the case. I also had previously purchased a Les Paul that arrived with a pickup selector switch that would not hold the setting, either up or down. It bounced back to the middle position. As I said, both of these guitars were brand new. So much for the vaunted 55 point inspection. I venture to say the case was never even opened on the ES. They gave me a $300 credit for my issue with the wood chunks and paid for the repair on the PU selector switch. But a 55 point inspection? Puhlease, give me a break.

What would you use on a 7 string. I like p90s on UA-cam. 😂every time I hear them I like them. But I’d like a 7 string. Not for metal though. Just to be able to play more chord shapes easier. It seems all the 7 string pickups are made for metal with a more impressed sound. Do you know of any 7 string pickups more like a traditional p90 sound.l and feel.

I bought one (Tele) with the Texas Tea finish. Found it used in mint condition in Texas. It is a great guitar and allows for more aggressive playing and fast action. It also has solid harmonic response. I don't completely love the pickups but I do like the button where you can have the pickups in series. It's definately perfect for my hands, which are a bigger. That's why I sought it out. When you pick it up, its hard to put down. I compared it to my other Tele which is a vintage 50's (made by Nash), they are totally diffrent and sound different. I like them both and use them for different types of songs and playing. I am considering buying different pickups. I need advice on which one's to get. Looked at Lollar and Seymour Duncan. Maybe you have somethings sweet Dylan....Maybe I should check out your pickups. If so, which ones that allow me to have the series wiring button too.

All I know is I have enjoyed more Squier guitars since they switched from Basswood to Poplar. It may be a coincidence that their construction methods changed or improved at the same time. But I now have 3 Poplar Squiers that sound great, whereas every basswood guitar I tried got sold. Who knows.

The vegetarian hamburger of guitar amps.. Not for me, thanks ! I had a chance to A-B a real one and the modeler. Don't believe the hype ! It doesn't sound right. It can not sound right. If you can get one for a few hundred bucks and gig it for a few years before it craps out, then fine. It is what it is. Don't expect it to last like a vintage amp. It's a computer. As far as people getting all exited that it's light, that's because of the pine cab. And yes you save weight on there being less iron. but guess what? A real tube amp can come in a pine cab too.. My tweed deluxe is lighter than the fender modeler I tried. Here's what I think they got right. It looks vintage , not like a fender mustang amp etc etc. But.ask.yourself.how different it really is? These are way overpriced . I'd rather spend the money on a real deal tube amp.

I enjoy your videos, but you've got it backwards: Yes, more resistance reduces power (voltage) output as well as reducing the high frequencies & the high resonant peak. (...luckily, the increased winds, that boost resistance, bring more output than is lost because of that resistance). But, when it comes to capacitance, it is a case of cutting bass & midrange, more or less depending upon amount of capacitance...not cutting or increasing the highs. Capacitance acts as a high pass filter and when the cutoff level is high, the same amount of "highs" sound like they're increased...but actually that is because the lows were cut...ie: the ratio of highs to lows is greater...and vice versa. As you yourself have mentioned, except with active (preamp) circuitry, passive components can't add what is not there to start with, only cut it. On the other hand, the "grease bucket" circuitry does cut highs, while increasing the resonant peak of the "presence" bands (between mids & highs) which people hear as a "midrange boost", giving a fuller, richer but also perceptively bright tone...without screeching trebles. I hope I was clear with this explanation!

Thanks for the info, but, I'm a little disappointed be cause I was hoping you would address situations regarding vintage guitars, I just bought an aria pro 2 off of eBay, great Matsumoku factory made guitar, but it's 40 years old and I'm getting crackling and in consistencies with the controls, as you stated. My instinct is to replace all pots, switches, pick ups, etc. because you never know with a guitar that is 40 years old, and of what quality of parts were used, even though its a great quality- made guitar.
